my uterus stages monthly hostile takeovers of my brain

so my mom had a hysterectomy last week and this prompted a discussion between myself and a co-worker over the etymology of the word hysterectomy. well lets start with the basics:

hystera is the greek word for womb and ectomy comes from the greek word ektomy meaning "a cutting out"

the term hysteria was originally defined as a neurotic condition peculiar to women and thought to be caused by a dysfunction of the uterus. you see the ancient greek doctors thought that the uterus moved around the body causing hysteria, and that removing the uterus would cause the "neurotic" condition to cease.

our question is this:

if the uterus was so busy traveling about the body, how did they know where to find it when they went to remove it?
